In the hospital every holiday we celebrate this year!

2010 seems to be the year of spending every holiday we celebrate in Columbia Asia Hospital! We started the year with spending New Year's Day with Hannah in the hospital:
Then, Chinese New Year's holiday, we had Joni in the hospital. We managed to escape Deepavali and Hari Raya -- perhaps because we're Christians and not Hindus or Muslims ジ then Joni came down with a rotavirus infection with vomiting and diarrhea 2 days after Christmas:
Do pray for her recovery if you're reading this before New Year's Day...

Ian and Julianne,

We are praying for Joni.

When our grandkids got rotovirus, it just kept bouncing around the family for several weeks, so please be careful to sterilize eating utensils and too not let the girls touch each others faces for a few days.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year, despite the adversity.

Warm greetings from cold Illinois.

Thanks. Hannah is with the babysitter, so hopefully she didn't get infected earlier and will be all right.

Update on Joni: She's still on drip, doing OK. Juliane's having a lot of aches and pains from sleeping on the hospital couch & other problems, so please pray for her. I'm doing fine except for a little bit of lack of sleep.

Hi praying friends,

It appears I've caught the Rotavirus too. Had bad diarrhoea three times since around 4.30am; it's now about 7.30am. Tummy's uncomfortable and sometimes painful. Been retching more than normal. I do retch occasionally usually, probably bcos of the Mirena contraceptive, which I'd gotten removed in Nov (that's another story, and a long one). Been dizzy around the weekend - again more severe than usual, bcos I do get mild dizzy spells on a normal basis (Mirena again, I suspect) for some time now.

Young Joni's baby faith is being tested again, as she didn't want to pray for the third time - she's done that on two recent occasions bcos of some incident that upset her and for which she blamed Jesus in her preschooler mind. The first time, she said, "I don't want Jesus", and finally said she's angry with Jesus; and once more, when I asked her last night, she said she was angry again with Jesus. I had told her after the first incident that it is ok to be angry with Jesus and that mummy does too, now and then, but that Jesus always loves us, and we can
tell him we're angry with Him. But in between these spells of anger and rebellion, Joni does display childlike faith in volunteering to pray for me recently whenever I get aches and pains of various types since the last one year, some of which remain mysterious. We can see the hand of God working in Joni's young life. Praise God!

Thank you for your friendship and support. Do also update us with your prayer requests, and praise items.

By God's grace,
Juliane

Joni's definitely improving. They decided to unhook the drip this afternoon, though they left the needle in her hand in case they need to re-administer it.

Joni will probably be discharged tomorrow.

I just heard from Juliane. She is very sick. Our neighbour, Su Sim, plans to take her to the GP to get a referral letter for the insurance then here to the hospital. The boy in the next bed has just been discharged this afternoon so perhaps she can have that bed and be in the same room with Joni.

Latest update: the GP gave her something in a drip and sent her home, not coming to the hospital.

Joni just took a turn for the worse. She didn't want to eat since lunch time but then got hungry enough she asked for a bottle of milk.

I made her soy milk formula around 11:30pm which she drank eagerly, but then threw it all up!

This caused her a lot of emotional distress, especially since they had to re-bandage the IV, and re-attach the IV so that she'll be hydrated and fed since she hadn't eaten.

So now I don't know if we will be going home tomorrow as earlier expected or not.

The pediatrician thinks that last night's vomiting may just be due to drinking the soy milk too much and too quickly. She said to try giving it to her in smaller amounts.

This morning she had soy bean drink in smaller amounts and has been fine so far.

We're praying for health and strength for your family.

Haven't visited since there's a flu bug going around in our home.

There's a duplicate post as I didn't tick the "email follow-up" box. Hope you can clean it up.

I'm lacking sleep but otherwise OK. Juliane's feeling better.

Joni has been refusing food today so we're staying in the hospital another night.

Joni managed to eat a bit of noodles for dinner and drink some water, and they've taken off the drip again to encourage her to eat & drink more.

Joni has a fever from some secondary infection so we've got to stay another day at the hospital.

Thanks, Yoke May and PY.

Good news: the pediatrician just saw Joni and says we can go home today, though she'll have to continue her medications and come back at the end of the week for a follow-up checkup.

The saga continues! Shortly after I posted that last message, I started having funny feelings in my stomach and now in my head.... don't tell me I caught some kind of bug here in the hospital!!!

Ian said...

Juliane noticed I had a mild fever yesterday before dinner and we took my temperature and confirmed it. But I didn't seem to have any other symptoms -- the funny feeling had gone away.

So I guess I did catch something, but my immune system is dealing with it. I feel OK this morning, so we shall see.

Frances said...

okie...will continue to pray for u & ur family

Praise to our great God that he gave us the immune system and that He also allowed us to learn about immunization, e.g. in my case I got flu immunization at the GP for this season and it helped indeed: the few infections I got only lasted for 1 to 3 days, feeling them coming but leaving soon. Hallelujah! I pray that everything will be fine with you all as well and as soon as possible. Yours Klaus
